It’s a good thing I have a balance problem, because if I had any other kind of disability, I don’t know if I’d have as many opportunities to laugh! For one thing, I am the queen of woahs–people tease me all the time when I walk and say “woah” with every step, and when I bonk my head on the wall or even the ceramic surface of the shower. Sometimes it’s just a dumb misstep that I figure I should be able to foresee by now (40 years this November), and I love being teased; I cherish it. But the ways I have learned to compensate for my balance problem with my toes is clever, and this adaptability is one of the pieces of Elizabeth that I am most proud of. It cracks me up too.
