STEPPING INTO CURIOSITY
Summary
Chapter Two marks Douglass and Emily’s first substantial meeting, and the chapter brings out the plot, setting the stage for a love story wrought with conflict. Emily’s Autism Spectrum Disorder has greatly limited her social relationships and her understanding of physical attraction. Douglass is handsome to her, but interacting with him is a foreign concept. Consequently, Emily is terrified to be alone with Douglass when Jeff has to leave unexpectedly. Still, she ends up practicing her social poise with him and does have a good time after all.
Douglass and Emily’s first alone-time came about conveniently for Jeff, who is eager to give Douglass some practice in caring for his sister while he is in Chicago.
