I overheard another customer, one time, at Micheal’s (arts & crafts store) ask if they ever sell Stars of David, which is a Jewish symbol created by overlaying two opposing triangles making a six-pointed star. The five-pointed ones are commonplace, at least at this huge chain of art supply stores–I don’t remember how the cashier responded, but I’ve never seen Stars of David there. Well, leave Micheal’s alone–I certainly am not writing to badmouth Micheal’s. But ever since I started noticing how many five-pointed stars there are in commercial use, I can’t help but think further–where are the six-pointed ones?
I’m taking a stand via this post because I was awestruck by simplicity made so elegant the first time I looked deeply at a Star of David, made by two plain old geometric shapes! My motto throughout my adult life has been that simplicity makes elegance, and the Star of David illustrates my point (pardon the pun.)
