“I like her rings,” Mary said, I guess to my supervisor, since she was the only one nearby. But Mary was referring to my rings!  Why did she talk around me? I knew her name just because I had seen her in the office before, but if she didn’t know mine, I still don’t know why she would tell my supervisor that she liked my rings. I answered her anyway with a “thank you.”

I bring this up because Mary’s not the only one who does this; I notice people do it to me a lot. Whether it’s a ‘communication impediment’ thing or a disability thing, or whatever, it’s quite strange. if the person doesn’t know how to address me with a compliment about me, why even bother?
